Lois Rock tells the story from Jesus and his disciples approaching Jerusalem at the start of what we now know as Holy Week, through to Pentecost and the spreading of the Gospel worldwide: she manages this in very simple language that a young child can easily follow, accompanied by equally simple but expressive illustrations. With it’s presentation page in the front it would make a better Easter gift for a young child than an Easter egg, or perhaps in addition, I like chocolate too.
This is the Easter story taken from The Beginner’s Bible and produced in slim paperback format. An ideal little present for a young child, to help them understand why Easter is such a very special celebration.

A charming way to introduce 3-5 year olds to the idea of the resurrection. A little angel in a garden talks to a nesting dove. The angel and the dove are watching out for the signs of the coming spring; flowers opening, butterflies emerging into the sunshine, all is happy and bright. Then one day all becomes sad and gloomy, a woman is crying, and the angel and the dove wait, and wait, until all is joyful again. The dove’s eggs hatch, the woman is laughing and yes! Jesus is alive again!
The latest in the Bible Codecrackers series, this little book, will keep a youngster busy for hours! Packed with things to do and all the while learning more about Jesus and the story of Easter in particular. Really imaginative activities, not just the usual crosswords and wordsearches, there are things to do here that are certainly new to me. Plenty to read too, they will need a Bible to refer to, and before they begin should read the ‘Advice for all codecrackers’ at the beginning.

Now this is different! This is the story of the two angels at the tomb of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. A Guardian Angel who had watched Jesus death on the cross and longed to save him, the other a shadow of an angel, the Angel of Death, was fearful that he had to bring death to someone else; though very aware of the suffering the loss of anyone can be to their families and friends. To their surprise their mission was one of joy. One was to roll away the stone at the entrance to the tomb, the other to tell the approaching women the news of the resurrection of Jesus. Sensitively told and illustrated, this story particularly appealed to me.
The Very First Easter - Candle Bible for Toddlers Sticker Activity Book

How to use this book: Pull out the sticker sheets and have them beside you. Read the story and use the stickers to fill in the missing pictures.
This series of books is great fun. Each sticker can only be used once (they stick firmly – I’ve tried one out) but the story will be there to enjoy again and again and there is a centre spread for colouring in.
