The Jesus Meditations - The Jesus Meditations
by Michael Kennedy With accompanying CD narrated by Martin Sheen
As the title indicates this book is Jesus centred. It is carefully structured and each section has the same form. First there is a personal story told by someone the author has encountered in his ministry, then a relevant passage from the Bible of what Jesus in similar circumstances said and did. This is followed by a long meditation in the first person exploring the content of the story and scripture, and at the end there are ideas for reflection with questions for the reader. There is a CD accompanying the book with several of the meditations read by the actor Martin Sheen. The book would be very useful for groups as it includes ideas for discussion and opening and closing prayers.

A Person of Purpose - Lessons in Life From God's People
by Alistair Begg, Stephen Gaukroger and Elizabeth McQuoid
I am enjoying this book, and the group I attend has decided to study it as their next course. Much of the book uses themes taken from the Book of Ruth, and talks them through, giving us insights many will have missed before, and as the theme is worked through, giving in italics, questions for the group to discuss when they meet.
The last five chapters look at Elijah, Samson,Deborah, David and Joshua separately and look at the purpose in their lives. Preparation by participants will be necessary to get the full benefit of this course.

Christianity Explored
by Rico Tice & Barry Cooper
Study Guide ISBN 1-904-88933-6: £3 Leader’s Guide ISBN 1-904-88932-8: £6
How to run the course ISBN 1-904-88930-1: £10
Christianity Explored is a ten-week course with a two-fold aim: To present "the gospel...to all nations" (Mark 13:10) and "To prepare God's people for works of service" (Ephesians 4:12)
Christianity Explored helps people answer three questions that cut to the heart of Christianity: Who is Jesus? Why did he come? What does he demand of those who want to follow him? By focusing on Mark's Gospel, Christianity Explored aims to return people to the magnetic yet challenging gospel of Jesus Christ. As Mark is read, taught, and discussed, those on the course begin to grasp the unimaginable grace of God, as he sends his only Son to die on a cross, taking the punishment we deserve, forsaken so that we need never be. The course presents this gospel in all its fullness so that God may be glimpsed in all his greatness. As well as relating the gospel faithfully to non-Christians, the course equips Christians too. Included in the course material are a wealth of training exercises designed to inspire, encourage and inform course leaders in their evangelistic work, whether in the context of a Christianity Explored course, or beyond.
