The Wonderful Story of Christmas

by Claude Lafortune

A well told story following through from the Angel appearing to Mary and telling her of God’s plan for her to have a baby, to the birth of Jesus. Claude Lafortune is an artist who does marvellous things with paper. Here he makes the familiar figures from the story of the nativity and as well as illustrating the story, there are pull out pages from which you can cut the figures to set up in your own home-made stable.

Welcome the Baby Jesus

by Maggie Barfield

A delightful retelling of the Christmas story with that extra something that will keep it a favourite from year to year. The familiar style of repetition is one children enjoy and adults like reading! Maggie Barfield introduces just enough new lines to hold the attention and tell the story in full without sounding exactly like The House That Jack Built. Children under six and Grandparents over sixty will particularly enjoy this book!

What’s Christmas?

by Alex Tewkesbury

‘Christmas?’ Snow Bear looked puzzled. ‘What’s Christmas?’
This charming story tells how Snow Bear asks the animals she meets to tell her what Christmas is, but what they tell her doesn’t make sense, and they run off before explaining anything. Then a boy comes along and pieces all the separate parts of the story together until she understands, but on the way home Old Polar tells her the best bit of all, Christmas is Love.

Who’s Hiding?

- A Christmas Lift-the-Flap book

by Vickie Howie and Krisztina Kállai Nagy

The Christmas story told so simply but with great charm. The same phrase inviting the lifting of the flap, is used on each page, and little ones will soon be repeating it with the reader and it won’t take many readings before they know the entire story by heart. Rhyming couplets are within the words of each page spread, and the illustrations faithfully tell the story too. This will become a favourite for many little ones.

Wipe Clean Christmas Story

by Juliet David illustrated by Marie Allen

Felt tips or crayons can be used in this book, but just to make sure you have got the right thing there is a white patch on the back cover to scribble on and make sure it rubs off.
Join the dots, follow the line, circle objects and differences, they are all here to keep a child entertained, and the joy is that the book can be used again and again by the same child or another one who hasn’t seen it before.
