Sparkling Stories - Christmas Tales to Read Aloud
by Brian Ogden, Marjory Francis, Rob Harrison and others
These are short stories and poems for school, church or to read at home. Helpfully, each piece has the ‘reading time’ at the start. These original stories all follow the Christmas theme, but you will be surprised by the variety of approaches by the different authors. Very enjoyable for adults, so even more fun for the children if you share this book with them!

The Mistletoe Girl and Other Christmas Stories
by Ethel Pochocki, Illustrated by Peter Lague
This is a book of many stories to be read and re-read at Christmas time for many years to come. Each one is original, each shares the joy of Christmas in a unique way. The author has raised eight children, so knows just what will appeal to young minds, but I promise you, older children (adults!) will enjoy them just as much.

Christmas with Mr Bear
by Alan and Linda Parry
This is going to be just right for Daniel, aged four. He knows his numbers but needs practice at telling the time. This title and the others in this series Bible Story Time with Mr Bear and Prayer Time with Mr Bear each have a clock appearing through all the pages, stout enough for little fingers to turn the hands to the different times at the top of each page where a digital clock shows the alternative. Using beautifully illustrated animals to tell the story, with inset illustrations of the real Christmas story,Christmas with Mr Bear is a book to hold any child’s attention.

One Night in a Stable
by Guido Visconti, Illustrated by Alessandra Cimatoribus
A very simple telling of the Christmas story, using a lot of imagination. The old Ox who lives in the stable gives shelter to many creatures during a stormy night, till a couple with a donkey come seeking somewhere to rest. The old Ox offers to move out to make room for them, but in his weakness cannot break his tether, so the other animals go outside instead. In the morning a young baby lies in the straw and the Ox is glad to warm him with his breath as he had done for the animals the night before. When his master finally comes to see him, he acknowledges that this child will be the new master of us all.

The Christmas Mouse
by Stephanie Jeffs and Jenny Thorne
‘Late on a very snowy evening, a little mouse finds a tightly wrapped present under a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Opening it he finds himself involved in the most amazing event the world has ever known…’ this book is a delightful way of introducing very young children to the Christmas story. The mouse’s story is woven around the telling of the birth of Jesus without detracting from the original story. The illustrations will appeal to youngsters and adults alike.
