You Fish Shoes- Connecting 30 Key Issues with Christian Faith for 14-18year oldsEdited Jenny Baker This popular and well known book lives up to everything it claims. It is a very good resource indeed. Though aimed a 14-18 year olds it is limitless in its scope. The book connects 30 key issues with Christian faith. For example the book covers, death, suffering, AID’s drugs, abortion, the occult, the media, emotions, the environment and euthanasia to name but a few. This is not a ‘tell you about this’ book but is a guide for leaders to explore these thorny issues sensitively and thoughtfully. Each topic can be adapted to your individual needs but gives ideas for introducing the topic, links the topic to bible passages, websites to use and many other ideas to adopt. This is a must for any group leader or speaker. Review by Hilary Morgan (06/01/06) |

Youth Emmausby Stephen Cottrell, Sue Mayfield, Tim Sledge, Tony Washington Youth Emmaus offers a Christian nurture course aimed at 11 - 16 year olds. Under the 3 headings of: What Christians believe, How Christians grow and Living the Christian life are 14 individual sessions. Each session begins with an ‘ice breaker’ and the course content is presented in a creative and interactive way aimed at engaging young people with the subject matter. Also included are many additional resources such as material to enable the course to be used alongside the adult version, an additional confirmation supplement and useful tips on child protection, understanding youth culture and postmodernism! There is also a CD-ROM included which makes printing all the handouts easy for computer users including posters, a power-point presentation and other resources. Overall a very user friendly course well thought out and presented. Notes by Steven Baggs, Church Army Officer, Leominster www.e-mmaus.org.uk Review by Guest reviewer (07/05/03) |

Youth Emmaus 2- Big Issues and Holy Spaces (Includes free CD-Rom)by Dot Gosling, Sue Mayfield, Tim Sledge and Tony Washington When a book reviewer is aged 13 and recommends a youth resources book as ‘absolutely brilliant’ adult youth leader should take note. And when another reviewer who is 12 says it is a fun way to learn about Jesus, it deserves to be taken seriously. Youth Emmaus 2 is packed with well explained and easy to use exercise and resources for the younger teenager age range from 11-16. Aimed at those who have basic knowledge of the Christian faith, the book and accompanying CD ROM is a 14 week course of material which is ready made and photocopiable. As useful as the adult counterpart, I am sure it will become as widely used. Review by Jim Currin (19/06/06) |
