Food for Cannibals - The Story of John Paton
by Jim Cromarty
John Paton 1824 - 1907, missionary to New Hebrides now known as Vanuattu. It took me a long time to get to grips with this book but by the end I was really enjoying it. This is the story of a remarkable Christian man (and family) whose ministry amongst Cannibals in the islands of the New Hebrides was amazing. He was greatly used by God despite many personal family tragedies and setbacks. At the end of each chapter there is "Something to think about" aimed at children. I wasn't sure about this because I couldn't make up my mind which age group would read the book. Nevertheless I'm glad that I persevered with it.

Back to Jerusalem - Called to Complete the Great Commission
by Three Chinese Church Leaders with Paul Hattaway
‘Brothers Yun, Peter Xu Yongze and Enoch Wang, three Chinese church leaders who between them have spent more than 40 years in prison for their faith, explain the history and present-day reality of the Back to Jerusalem movement.’ ‘The term Back to Jerusalem refers to the call from God for the Chinese church to preach the gospel and establish fellowships of believers in all the countries, cities, towns and ethnic groups between China and Jerusalem.’ This book has been written to help you and I understand what motivates so many Chinese Christians, and how far they have come already.

God Among Us - Glimpses of Glory in Baja, Mexico
by Linda Baker Kaahanui in collaboration with Charla Pereau
The book Charla’s Children was published by Bethany House in 1981 and told the story of the work that Chuck and Charla Pereau from Los Angeles had become involved with following an incident way back in 1961. All these years later that work has grown beyond their wildest imaginings and this book tells how, by following God’s guidance at every turn, amazing things have been achieved, always in ‘His’ name. An enthralling book, one I found hard to put down, and sorry when I reached the end. Stories of individuals, of appalling hardship and suffering, the building of a Medical Clinic, facilities for Child birth, outreach to surrounding isolated areas and so much more. Of course the work goes on and only God knows what the future will be, and who next will be led to serve here in some capacity.

Scaling the Wall - Overcoming Obstacles to Missions Involvement
by Kathy Hicks
At a student mission attended by young people from over eighty countries, to help college students find out how and where they could get involved in worldwide mission, students were encouraged to write on a long blank space whatever was in their hearts. The words they wrote made such an impact on the organisers that the ‘wall’ was reassembled at Operation Mobilisation’s USA headquarters and Kathy Hicks felt impelled to create a book out of these writings that could be shared around the world. Out of the 700 entries filling the twelve foot by eight foot wall, and by grouping the prayers, confessions and statements under headings such as ‘General Fear’, 'Desire to stay in my comfort zone', 'Lack of faith in God', and many others, Kathy has written a book full of encouragement and stories of fulfilment. From the students doubts and fears has come a book of inspiration.

In the Presence of My Enemies
by Gracia Burnham with Dean Merrill
This book is an account of the horrific kidnapping and torture by the Abu Sayyaf of innocent people in the Phillipines, including the missionaries Martin and Gracia Burnham, which makes for very gripping reading. It is a book which I am very pleased to have read and for me the measure of their Faith and Trust in our Lord Jesus has been an inspiration.

A Cry From the Streets
by Jeanette Lukasse
‘In the dark world of Brazilian street children, toddlers and teenagers search trash cans for food, steal knives to protect themselves at night, and live in fear of the police’. Into this scene, to live and work, two young Dutch people feel called by God. This is the story of how God led them stage by stage to do just that. First they approached YWAM (Youth With a Mission) and they both took YWAM’s nine month Discipleship Training School course. From there they found themselves in Athens, helping to repair and prepare an old and rusty ship the Anastasis for missionary work. Several years and two children later, they at last reach Brazil and the story goes on…. A story of working to God’s plan, with great faith and commitment.
