Qualities of Enduring Love
Edited by Patrick Whitworth
Not everyone would think of inviting a group of people to preach a series of sermons to celebrate one’s silver wedding, but that is what Patrick Whitworth and his wife did. The transcribed results tackle many aspects of enduring love, an ideal so aspired to, and so lacking in the multitude of relationships in our contemporary society. I suspect that readers will be drawn to the name Sandy Millar on the cover, but the other contributors have useful things to say. The chapter headings are clichés like ‘Learning to: Belong to: and Dealing with’, but their contents have worthwhile things within.

How to Survive Being Married to a Catholic - A frank and honest guide to Catholic attitudes, beliefs and practices
by Michael Henesy & Rosemary Gallagher
First published 1986 this is ‘A frank and honest guide to Catholic attitudes, beliefs and practices.’ Although this book has a serious purpose – to inform the non-Catholic partner in a mixed marriage about what their spouse believes – it is considerably brought to life by means of drawings and cartoons. The approach is direct and often light-hearted as the core doctrines of the Catholic Church are explained sympathetically. Of particular relevance are the chapters dealing with sex, family planning and family life. Catholics also will find these chapters illuminating. Indeed, the whole book will be of interest to Catholics and non-Catholics alike.
