A Book of Hours

by Thomas Merton

GoodBookStall Review:
The editor of this book is Kathleen Deignan who has assembled a collection of prayers and writings of Thomas Merton, the celebrated Cistercian monk and one of the most influential spiritual masters of the twentieth century. She has put together prayers, poems, canticles and spiritual reflections for each part of each day of the week. It recreates the ancient monastic practice of using a Book of Hours to pray and contemplate around the clock. The language is rich and reflective and Merton’s unique style makes vivid the splendours of creation and of God’s presence in each one of us. It is a book to be kept always at hand and can be used at any time as a source of inspiration and fulfilment.
