The Safe Room

by Carol Mog

GoodBookStall Review:
One of the most difficult things to deal with as a counsellor is the issue of childhood sexual abuse. It is difficult emotionally for both client and counsellor and difficult because often the memories of abuse have been suppressed to the point of being forgotten. With ongoing fears of false memory syndrome and New Age practices, unlocking those memories is a delicate task. The Safe Room is a much needed tool in how to unlock those memories of abuse and help the client trust in God for healing. Unlike much secular counselling techniques it does not leave the client as victim, instead it allows the damage to be brought to God and owned so the healing process can come. The Safe Room is a technique that has been tested over a decade and is grounded in both Scripture and counselling theory and practice. It is also a technique that I will be using in my own practice as a counsellor as appropriate.
