Becoming the Parents God Wants You to be

Books about how to bring up children abound, and each year a new author and a new theory come to the fore, but this book is different. Instead of telling parents how to raise the kind of children they would like to have, it tells them how to train them in the way that God has laid down in his word, the object being to bring children up who glorify and honour him.
For this reason the focus is turned away from getting children to eat their vegetables or to do their homework and instead concentrates on instilling in them the truth about who God is and why they should put Him first in their lives. There are four sections, dealing with the gospel, discipline, the Bible and mission and the chapters use a Bible passage, which is then applied practically and is followed by questions for the reader to think about.
The authors are both parents themselves and the tone of the book is both friendly and sympathetic, but the emphasis is so different from most books in this genre that it is a very challenging read. This is the kind of book that could be given to new parents, but it could also be used in a group setting to stimulate a study of what God says in his word about child-rearing and how that applies today.
