Christianity Explored: Youth Edition – User Guide, £2.50, 978-1-905-56443-9
These books make up a course that ranks alongside Youth Alpha and Youth Emmaus as a resource to lead a Youth Group through presenting evidence and explaining the Christian faith, to the point where Young people are able to make their own decision to follow Christ. The Leader’s Guide contains everything a leader will need to train helpers, plan and run the 7 week course, along with an annotated User Guide. The basis of the course is Mark’s gospel and each week involves an ice breaker, a bible study and a talk/DVD session. The DVD is available to use if leaders are not confident giving talks themselves but all details are contained within the manual. The User Guide for each participant requires active writing after each point, and has a section for feedback where a person can record their thoughts and responses. The emphasis on Mark’s gospel and the initial Bible study are where it differs from Youth Alpha. I haven’t used this course but have used Youth Alpha and this course would probably appeal to more of a church based Youth Group than non-churched. The leader’s guide is clear and extensive, and more to the point fairly easy to negotiate. The User Guide is not fussy, has a few cartoons and would probably appeal to most young people. It is well worth considering along side other courses if you are planning an evangelistic outreach with your group.
