GoodBookStall Review:
This is the first book I have put into three categories simultaneously, it is that important! A book to read whether you have children or not, a book on a subject that is distasteful to many but is of paramount importance to all children. Rebecca Andrews is a police officer with wide experience of working in different areas, but now serving in the Child protection Unit and Paedophile Unit. Believe me, she has seen things that you and I would rather not know about, but that is just the point – we must be aware of sex offenders, and how clever and manipulative they can be, not just of young children but of the adults who are supposed to be protecting them. Rebecca has managed to write a comprehensive book on this subject, not shying away from any issues but at no point being more specific than she has to be. The result is a very readable book that has touches of humour, yet spells out the situation in stark simplicity. We have to be alert to the possibility of danger at all times and at no time be lulled into a false sense of security, that is just what a paedophile is hoping for. In this computer age there are dangers that older people have never encountered before, but that in no way excuses ignorance. Parents should be one-step ahead of their young ones, impose strict guidelines, and learn about the dangers of the internet. These are dangers that did not exist for previous generations, dangers at church, yes, at church as well as elsewhere, dangers that must be faced by anyone with anything to do with children. I now understand more fully the need for checking and vetting systems that are essential in this fight against evil. Rebecca only manages to do the work she does because she has learnt that God is there with her, supporting her as she watches scenes of horror, shouldering her concerns and enabling her to live a happy family life.
