John Paul II - The Path to Sainthood
by Michael Collins
GoodBookStall Review:
This is the life story of John-Paul II, the first non-Italian Pope for five hundred years. He was Pope for twenty six years until his death in 2005 and has recently been beatified. His early life in occupied Poland is examined in detail. He worked as a labourer, an actor, a journalist and a teacher. He held clandestine classes under the Nazis and later, when he returned to communist Poland, he preached against atheistic communism. During this time there were various attempts on his life. He is particularly remembered for his friendship with the Jews, his deep devotion to Mary and his commitment to Christian unity. Young people responded well to him. A great communicator and preacher, he lost his voice at the end. With his beatification the first step on the way to sainthood has been completed. We now await the final declaration from the Vatican.
