This is the latest edition of what has become the standard guidebook to re-ordering places of worship. [Most of the changes are 'invisible mending', but a book like this needs to be kept up to date, and references to both projects and legislation are fully contemporary.] It is well illustrated and laid out and makes the ideal text for a parish building development group. The basic thesis of the book is that simply varnishing the pews will not do. 'Houses of the Church' need to be ordered in a way which properly reflects the nature of the church and its worship, and which communicates those into the culture in which they are set. "If we mean business, the vast majority of our parish churches will require radical re-ordering to refurbish and re-equip them for service in the next century." Not for the faint-hearted - but neither is the church…
