GoodBookStall Review:
You might think this is a high price for such a slim book, but I promise you it is worth every penny.
Originally published in 1985 by Hodder and Stoughton, this edition is a copy, so the font is not the best, but the words are gems of devotional thought. It would fit well into our Lent, Holy Week and Easter category but might be missed if I put it there, and it deserves reading at any time of year.
Taking as his theme the ‘stations of the cross’ and adding some ‘stations beyond the cross’ Frank Topping wrote poetic pieces as if written by the people involved; bringing to life in a very special way the traumatic happenings leading up to the death of Jesus and ‘after the cross’ to the resurrection through to the ascension. After each of these pieces, there is a meditation in similar style followed by a prayer.
I found I had to read and ponder and pray over one section each day. It was just not possible to read quickly through – all sense of devotion would have been lost. Highly recommended.
