GoodBookStall Review:
It is hard to imagine how many images of Christ there are - until you read that Janet Hodgson left 4000 of them when she returned from England to her home in South Africa.
While working in a wide variety of English contexts, notably the urban North East, Janet was well known for the workshops on the 'Images of Christ'. Here, in this second resource book with accompanying CD of images, we have the benefit of all that experience in a tool we can use ourselves. Brilliant.
This book is full of ideas and information. Lots of sermon and discussion group material has been beautifully presented and clearly told. I shall use it often.
'Working with images of Christ is all about liberating people to take responsibility for their own journey of faith' (p44). This aim well illustrated by a moving story told by an older man called John who said little until he saw an image of a young crucified Christ which spoke so clearly to him. Read the moving story on p17/18.
An image of Christ that moved me was the barbed wire Crucifix made by black South African young people (p19) - just one of many examples that challenges pre conceived ideas about Jesus, people and culture.
I could tell you lots more but I'll stop and just strongly commend this excellent resource book to you, especially if you are a leader and speaker, but also for anyone who wants to think about the multitude of world images of Christ.
