If It’s Not Too Much Trouble
The Challenge of an Aged Parent
by Ann Benton
GoodBookStall Review:
This is family life towards the end of a life or lives. Using her own experience of looking after her ailing and aged Father-in-Law, Ann Benton has written a very honest book. This is not a day by day diary of her experience it is an overall view of how things can and probably will be for anyone committing themselves to looking after an old person, relation or not. She talks about the many problems and temptations that will surely arise, but through all shines her faith in a God who cares for the Carer as well as those cared for. After acknowledging all the negative emotions and happenings that can arise she turns to the Bible to find help on those extra bad days and then goes on to outline practical strategies to enable the carer to stay sane and her final chapter suggests that the needs of the elderly are not just a challenge but an opportunity. If you have had any dealings with older people you will recognise much that Ann Benton is saying not only about those needing care but if you are as honest as she, your own feelings. This book will help.
