I have come across so many people who are put off reading the Old Testament, from Sunday School teachers and even clergy, through to under-graduates. This book should help such people as, although it is sufficiently detailed to be of value to students, it is written in a style which is accessible and interesting to the general reader. The book puts the Scriptures into their context of history, culture, sociology, geography, archaeology and literature, and guides the reader through both the insights and the limitations that the wider view provides.
