GoodBookStall Review:
Originally published in 2000, I wrote at the time - Bereavement comes in various forms, from the death of a loved one, to the loss of a job. The author has been through many struggles of her own, and shares the readings that she has collected around her to help her through. These are in sections from the initial, heavy sad feeling, through the anger and despair to the return of God given peace and even happiness. This is a book to keep by you for your own need, or to help others. You don’t have to read it steadily through, although the readings with their comment and prayer are numbered in days, it will be there with help, when you are ready to accept it.
This is a welcome new edition. In her forward Jennifer says that if she wrote it now, she would do it differently, but realises that the original edition written so soon after ‘her life was burnt to ashes’ has helped many people, so she has retained that immediacy. Her conclusion at the end of the book is also revealing.
Set out as 40 days of Bible reading, reflection and prayer, may it help many more with whatever type of bereavement they are suffering. Highly recommended.
