Assemblies for Spring and Summer Festivals
36 Ready-to-use Ideas for Key Christian Festivals and Other Special Days
by Martin Cox
GoodBookStall Review:
My first impressions of the book is that it is a good solid volume with a very appropriate cover indicating with its sub title ‘36 ready-to-use ideas for key Christian festivals and other special days’ that it is fit for purpose.
The inside introductory pages did not disappoint and the Forward by Elizabeth Wolverson, giving thoughts and explanations why she sees the book as an invaluable asset to those planning school assemblies, encourages to delve further. The Introduction expands on Elizabeth’s pr&éacute;cis and offers advice for ways a teacher might use the book, such as date, or key theme order. There are also suggestions for accompanying songs to use with each assembly.
I found the Key Information, set out for each assembly extremely useful and a gem of an addition was the giving of instant background information on the Bible story; a great saving in valuable research time. The Ideas for Exploring the Theme section; was for me the addition that made the whole assembly work for the intended audience. It helps give balance, and includes suggestions that allow the children to relate to the Bible story by using modern day situations and examples.
