Joy Dawson comes to this book with a wealth of previous titles to her name and she seeks to have Jesus at the centre guiding us to see where Jesus can help us by his example in His ministry with others. He does this, for example, through his open character, in friendships and as a soul winner. To a large extent she achieves the central theme of using Jesus as our plumb line. Where I found the book difficult was in her references to her previous writings which cropped up rather too frequently. She uses instances from her own life to illustrate the points she was making and one can see how God has used her ministry, but not having read any of her other works, the references to them started to distract from rather than enhance the content of this book.
