The Cool of the Day

by Sarah Fordham

GoodBookStall Review:
The Cool of the Day engages the heart and mind in the journey of faith, using images from the Christian scripture which evoke thought and reflection. Here Sarah Fordham offers original poetry creating word pictures which pose questions and explore life and faith. ‘No room’ for example offers a stark picture of the stable, while the ‘Psalm 23 Trilogy’ expresses a deep longing for Jesus the shepherd to be with us. The hope offered here is not empty or trite but real and engaging with the questions and experience of life. The best way to use this book is to have it close to daily Bible reading notes and to take one poem at a time. My favourite piece is ‘Everything depends on the rain’ as I like the unexpected message which is surprisingly real and hopeful all at the same time.
