The first part of the book is a variety of essays by different contributors accompanied by black and white photos of them and their subject. Archbishop Rowan Williams explores how the desert can help us find what it means to be human and the following contributors explore the theme of the desert space that people may find themselves in.
Then follows several book reviews written especially for this publication reflecting the theme ‘Spring in the Desert’ and finally the list of Christian Retreat Houses. Here, where there are advertisements within the text, they are on facing pages to the listed centres, so don’t interrupt looking through, but do give valuable extra information.
The Retreat Houses are run by many different denominations but welcome folk from all or none. The information contained here is enough to suit anyone needing ‘space’ to study, to share fellowship or just be alone.
