Most people will have a time when they are down and feel depressed due to redundancy, divorce, having been let down or some other circumstance that life throws at us. We can try and “pull our socks up” but get worse, so we give up. In Seven Steps Out of the Humpty Dumps Susan Sherwood Parr gives basic Biblical principles on how to get out of the depression. Using the image of Humpty Dumpty she explains that only God can put us together again and shows how by following Biblical steps we can allow this to happen. Seven Steps feels light hearted, as it challenges the Soap Opera we tell ourselves, but brings Biblical teaching to pierce the soap bubble using psychology to back the Bible up. If there is a problem with the book it is that, along with the majority of self help book, it over simplifies things. The journey out of depression is often two steps forward, one step back. Even so this book is a useful guide to go back to as needed for depression caused by circumstances.
