Gareth Crossley has higher degrees in theology and counselling, plus 40 years in the ministry, and pours it all into this reference book on leadership development. Headings, boxed quotations and Bible passages, charts and tables all lend clarity; but its great weakness is a lack of stories. Moreover, this conservative approach will not suit everyone. However, the book has two great assets. Firstly, the breadth: there are few aspects of church leadership that it does not address. Secondly, it is thorough: even the most experienced leader will encounter new ideas in the checklists, while few will fail to be challenged by the call to action and holiness that they represent.
