GoodBookStall Review:
Sometimes you find a book so captivating in its content, style and voice that it makes you want to read the next chapter when you promised yourself you would stop at the last one. This is definitely one of those books.
Witty, challenging and full of practical applications, God Speaks Your Love Language is a fresh examination of how God expresses His love for us and how, in turn, we reciprocate our love to Him through a variety of worship styles. Based on his popular first book The Five Love Languages Chapman explores how your primary love language – words of affirmation, quality time, gifts, acts of service or physical touch – plays a large part in your active relationship with God. Knowing the content of his original book is not a prerequisite for reading this edition as he spends a good few pages at the start explaining the basics of what each “language” entails. This gives you good grounding for the rest of the book as, chapter by chapter, he explores how we each use our own preferred love language to worship God and demonstrate kindness to His people. Chapman also allows you to see that your primary language dictates how you hope to receive love from God. More importantly, however, Chapman challenges you practically to be open to new avenues of love; to branch out of your comfort zone and see how other ways of expressing love can be rewarding. What I found particularly refreshing about this book is how it challenges your perception of other worship styles. Suddenly, the unfamiliar is not something to be feared. Instead, we should be celebrating all forms of biblical expressions of love toward God - something we all need to be reminded of, I’m sure!
