GoodBookStall Review:
Light holiday reading with enough interest to keep you turning the pages, or so I thought as I started to read, but there is a serious subject beneath the froth.
While her parents are abroad, Emily is spending the summer with her grandmother and two great-aunts; she loves Lake Manawa and all its recreational possibilities. It is the summer playground of the rich and influential with time on their hands. Emily is a committed suffragist and intends to use her time pursuing the aim of getting the state of Iowa to give women the vote and is the leader of the local group.
As an accident prone young woman she has no appreciation of her own beauty, and intends to remain unwed, and committed to the cause. Carter, a rising baseball star is instantly attracted to her and a friendship develops. Her aunts are set on finding her a husband, with hilarious results, there is a lady who is jealous of Emily and causes problems within the group, her brother is a successful business man – or is he? There are many strands here to keep you reading.
