Embers of Love, Hearts Aglow and Hope Rekindled all in one box – what a treat. I read all three while having a break, and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
The books follow the stories of three college friends who in differing circumstances follow Deborah back to her home in a logging community in Texas. Deborah feels bound to help her family with their business, after all that is why her father sent her away to be educated isn’t it? Now her father has been killed in an accident she feels she has no option but to stay – but longs to study medicine and that’s where the local Doctor comes into the scene.
Lizzie comes to Texas with Deborah, escaping moments before her marriage to a man she realises she was marrying for all the wrong reasons. Jael the third friend comes on the scene married, again for all the wrong reasons, to Lizzie’s former beau, which proves to be a recipe for disaster.
During the telling, some lovely characters are introduced among them Deborah’s mother Euphanel and her black ex-slave, now very dear friend, Sissy. Through many twists and turns the underlying theme throughout is of a Christian family living through natural and man-made disasters, and finally winning out against the evil intent of one very rich young man.
