First Steps Out of Problem Drinking
by John McMahon
GoodBookStall Review:
Lion has produced a new self-help series entitled ‘First Steps'. In First Steps out of Problem Drinking McMahon, draws on his own experience as a former alcoholic and as a university lecturer in substance abuse. He explains what makes drinking 'a problem' and how it affects life and a person’s health. It’s a very readable and accessible self-help book for those struggling with this illness and in practical ways informs how things can change for the better. McMahon asks the awkward questions about AA involvement and “can I ever drink again?” I would have liked to see some comment about taking communion wine and an appeal to churches to be aware of that issue.
