In this attractive book, intriguingly illustrated by Linda Baker Smith, Williams invites us by her enthusiasm to have an expectation and awareness of angels. She endeavours to show that they tell us of our place in God's unseen world, and our relationship with each other and God, and impinge on our own longings - all to move us on in our faith journey. With a biblical basis the opening of our imagination is tempered by caution; words, music and pictures cannot fully describe heavenly beings, neither in Isaiah’s day nor ours. Lifelong guardian angels are given neither to biblical characters nor us, as much as we look for their comfort. Stories by Richard Hooker (17c), John Milton, Philip Pulman and Teresa of Avila concerning angels are briefly but helpfully covered.
