The First Christmas
by Lois Rock, illustrated by Sophie Allsopp
GoodBookStall Review:
On glancing through my eye was caught by the illustration of a very young Jesus standing by his mother’s skirts welcoming the Wise Men: much truer to the Bible story than the Wise Men coming to the stable at Jesus’ birth. Following this favourable first impression I read from the beginning and was not disappointed, this is a delightful telling of the Christmas story. Starting with the Angel Gabriel appearing to Mary, through to the flight into Egypt, Sophie Allsopp’s gently coloured illustrations tell the stories well and Lois Rock’s text is a pleasure to read aloud. The book is aimed at ages 2 – 7 and should become a favourite.
