GoodBookStall Review:
This is a comprehensive book dealing with the process of grieving and will prove to be equally useful to the professional and the lay reader, most of us have either experienced bereavement personally or know someone who has.
Carol Staudacher has researched her subject extensively, and this is evident from the text which is both scholarly and also very readable. The book is divided into three parts, the first dealing with the experience and process of grieving, looking at the different emotions which the bereaved person is likely to experience. The second section addresses specific types of loss, such as that of a spouse, a parent, a child, a child's experience of bereavement, and deaths arising from accidents, suicide and murder. Thirdly there is a section on the practical aspects of getting and giving the help which many bereaved people need.
For the counsellor, the pastor, and those in other caring professions, this book is well worthy of a place on the bookshelf, though it is likely that it will spend significant time on the desk as well. For the reader who has been bereaved, there are many practical hints on coping with the loss. For those seeking to help a relative or friend who has suffered loss, the book will also give a practical guide to how best to be of help.
