The origins of this book lie in film-making. Having produced an hour-long documentary, the author edited the 60 hours of interview material which sourced the documentary, into book form; and this was accompanied by a DVD. The present book was then published with a (slightly) new title and no DVD! It might have been more ‘user friendly’ if a brief chronology/biography of Merton could have been included to anchor the interviews in Merton’s context.
However, the book is valuable for its insights into the contributors who knew Merton, e.g. David Berrigan or Martin Marty; figures important in their own right.
