Reader Ministry Explored

SPCK Library of Ministry

by Cathy Rowling and Paula Gooder

GoodBookStall Review:
A book especially designed for those looking into the possibility of Reader ministry in the Church of England, those who feel they have a vocation, and those Readers who would find this resource book helpful. The history of this ministry is covered to some extent, and the inherent contradictions which arose are chronicled – not least the unsatisfactory title, ‘Reader’. For those charged with a preaching ministry, those resources needed to sustain it are detailed. The Spirituality of the Reader is also a major theme. The question remains however, what need are Readers meant to meet? Answering that question would be very helpful to all concerned.
