GoodBookStall Review:
This doesnít look like an intimidating book, and it isnít, even though its authors are all of considerable learning. It appears now to accompany the new Lectionary Year, which will follow the readings in Markís Gospel. The approach it adopts is slightly unusual but effective. The opening chapter offers an overview of the gospelís structure. Each subsequent chapter takes the reader through a milestone of the Church year, Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Passion-Holy Week, and Easter, concluding with the understated Ordinary Time.
Each chapter offers an appropriate exploration of Markís text, a panel giving a poetic discursion called Imagining the Text, a reflection, and finally an offer of engagement through some simple action, through a stimulus for discussion, and a prayer. The result is something inspiring and provocative that has depth even in its conciseness. I recommend the book warmly, confident that the reader will come away a fellow traveller with Mark.
