In 1943 C.S.Lewis was asked by the BBC to give a series of addresses, and this book came out of those informal radio broadcasts. He had been an atheist, so brought to his message an experience just right to share with listeners. The fact that a fiftieth Anniversary editions in hardback and paperback have been produced bears its own testimony to the success he had in reaching all sorts and conditions of people, not least already committed Christians. Modern day evangelists consider this one of the greatest evangelistic tools written.
