Ian Smith takes time from his job with CMS (Church Missionary Society) to travel in the Near East to try to find Spirituality among the remaining Christians in the area. He starts his journey in Egypt and continues through Palestinian areas to Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey. He finds great faith, but learns at what cost to the individuals and communities because of discrimination, harsh regimes and war. This very readable book enabled me to continue reading and learning, though I find stories of this region leave me feeling very ‘churned up’. This journey took place before the second Iraq war.
