An Introduction to the History of Christianity

This is a veritable tome of a book but one that needs to be kept on the bookshelf of any theological student and read and dipped into regularly. It is a “story so far” in that it covers the period from the early church to the enlightenment, but does so with connecting narrative style which is the culmination of many years of classroom teaching by the author. For the new Christian enquirer it would be great to read it from cover to cover, but the chapters and sections are grouped in such a way that it is easy to dip into when seeking information about specific times or activities. A further complete bibliography is given at the end of each section which prompts the reader to search further and this for me creates an even wider range for study. The history of the Christian faith is long and involved and will contimue to be so, I look forward to the next book by this author if it comes up to the standard of this one – perhaps Christianity up to date?
