On That Easter Morning
by Mary Joslin, illustrated by Helen Cann
GoodBookStall Review:
I have been delighted with this re-telling of the story of Jesus from Palm Sunday, through Holy Week until the glorious day of Resurrection, Easter Day. I will be sending it to my grandchildren aged six and eight. Both will be able to read it for themselves, but it is also perfect for reading out loud and looking at the pictures with an adult for further explanation. Each page spread tells part of the story, accompanied by illustrations that set the scene and the mood. I particularly liked the handling of the crucifixion scenes. Jesus is shown struggling along with the cross on his back, and then the three crosses are outlined against the sky while Mary and the others stand in grief lower down the hill. Quite vivid enough for young imaginations. The grave scenes are clear and explicit, while the final page is Mary sharing the Good News with the others. Excellent.
