GoodBookStall Review:
The Story of Dinah is told briefly in Genesis 29 – 35, where the story of Jacob and his wives and children is set out. The tent where women of child bearing age spent time every month, away from all men, was known as The Red Tent, and this is the title of Anita Diamant’s imaginative re-telling of Dinah’s life-story, as if told by Dinah herself. Very definitely a woman’s view, with a completely different slant on how things happened, to the male version of it all, in the Bible. Dinah’s mothers were tough, pioneer women, still attached to the household gods of their father, though respecting the God of their husband Jacob. An absorbing, plausible, tale, with down to earth language, this is life as research has shown it to have been at this time.
