GoodBookStall Review:
An anthology of Prayers, a co-edition with Christian Aid Publications first published in 1992 and now available with a new cover. These sentences from the preface spoke to me ‘The meaning of the words we pray will be charged with the weight of our wealth or poverty, the place we live, the group we belong to, the schooling we have received, and the political beliefs we cherish – whether they are conscious or not.’ ‘This book offers resources for the ‘unpoor’ in the churches of Britain and Ireland to explore whether we can join the poor in their prayers.’ This doesn’t leave much more for me to say. The prayers are arranged to fit the seasons of the church’s year. Just reading through is a prayerful exercise, may they be used by us all.
