GoodBookStall Review:
. In the seven days covered by this 'Retreat', Henri Nouwen 'teaches us the disciplines we need to cultivate if we are to reclaim our humanity and avoid becoming just one more cog in the clutter of machines that now have such an impact on the shaping of our lives'. As Editor, Robert Durback skilfully avoids imposing his agenda and thoughts. He arranges material from Nouwen as only one familiar with him, and his associates, is able. Each 'Retreat Session' (i.e. day) has a preface, followed by a prayer, four to six pages based on Nouwen, section, 'For Reflection', and a 'Closing Prayer'. The references for each day are carefully noted. 'Getting to Know Our Director' is a short biography of Nouwen. The 'Retreat' ends with 'Going Forth to Live the Theme' and some phrases for meditation. A Bibliography includes a web page reference, audio cassettes, audiobooks and videos. Recommended.
